WooCommerce
Our take
WooCommerce is the default choice for selling on WordPress, and the core really is free: products, cart, checkout, orders and payments with Stripe or PayPal. Costs come from the extensions you add for subscriptions, bookings or advanced shipping, and from hosting, because a busy store needs more server power than a blog.
Good
- Free core with no transaction fees of its own
- Physical, digital and variable products
- Huge ecosystem of themes and extensions
- You own your store's data
Watch out
- Many advanced features need paid extensions
- Needs good hosting as the store grows
- Setup takes time to get right
WooCommerce adds a complete store to a WordPress site: product pages, a cart, checkout, customer accounts, order management and reports. Because it runs on your own site, you keep full control over your products, customer data and design.
What you can sell
- Physical products with stock, weight and shipping rules
- Digital downloads delivered after payment
- Variable products such as sizes and colors
- Grouped and affiliate products

Extending your store
